Both routes work, and the right one depends on the car and what you tow. Points worth checking:
- Towing limit: BYD publishes the maximum braked towing weight and nose-weight for each model, and not every BYD is rated for towing. Check the figure for your exact model and trim in the owner's manual or with a dealer before buying anything.
- Warranty: a BYD-approved towbar fitted by a dealer keeps things simple. An independent one should be fine if it is type-approved for your model and fitted by a specialist, but keep the invoice and approval paperwork, and ask the fitter to confirm in writing that the electrics work with the car's systems (parking sensors and trailer detection often need coding).
- EV range: towing cuts range heavily, so plan charging stops.
